PURPOSE OF THE TEST
To evaluate possible alterations of your bone marrow.

PREVIOUS PREPARATION
NO prior preparation is required. Fasting is not necessary. If you take any medication, it is important that you inform the health personnel about it.

TEST PROCEDURE
A radioactive compound, which does not give any type of reaction, is administered intravenously. You will need to wait 45 – 90 minutes for the radiopharmaceutical to set in the bones. During this time you should drink up to 1 liter of liquid (water, milk …) and you can urinate as many times as necessary. Then bone images are obtained.

TEST DURATION
Total time for the test lasts from 1.5 to 2 hours in total. The detection itself takes about 20 minutes.

RECOMMENDATIONS AFTER THE TEST
No complications or side effects are derived from the test and you will be able to live a normal life once it is finished.

BRINGING COMPANIONS
You can come with a companion. It will be necessary in the case of children or whenever the patient’s condition requires it.

TEST RESULTS
At the end of the test, our health and/or administrative staff will inform you about what to do to pick-up the results of the test.

WARNINGS
If you are a woman in childbearing age, if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, or if you are breast-feeding your baby, please tell your healthcare provider before performing the test.
