Bone scintigraphy + SPECT-CT
Description: Bone scintigraphy with SPECT-CT studies the bone metabolism of the entire skeleton and, focally, of metabolic lesions.
Preparation
- No prior preparation is required. No fasting is needed.
Indications
- Detection of bone metastases.
- Assessment of primary bone tumours.
- Bone involvement secondary to bone marrow disorders.
- Assessment of joint and osteoarticular conditions (inflammatory, infectious or degenerative arthropathies).
- Metabolic bone disease.
- Assessment of traumatic musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries.
- Assessment of joint prostheses and bone grafts.
- Bone recovery in vascular conditions (avascular bone necrosis, algodystrophy).
Test duration
3 hours.

Bone marrow (macrophage) scintigraphy
Description: Assessment of the distribution of the reticuloendothelial system in the bone marrow, liver and pancreas.
Preparation
- No prior preparation is required.
Indications
- Assessment of the distribution of normal bone marrow in the presence of intramedullary prostheses, osteosynthesis or neoplastic marrow infiltration, as a complement to bone scintigraphy or to labelled leucocyte scintigraphy.
Test duration
2 hours.

Labelled leucocyte scintigraphy for the study of bone infections / Labelled leucocyte whole-body scan for the study of bone infections / Labelled leucocyte tomography (SPECT-CT) for the study of bone infections
Description: Assessment of the distribution of labelled leucocytes in inflammatory and infectious processes.
Preparation
- Fasting for at least 6 hours is recommended.
Indications
- Detection and localisation of bone infections: abscesses at any site; osteoarticular infections, infections of osteosynthesis material or joint prostheses; vascular prosthesis infections; infections within the diagnostic work-up of fever of unknown origin.
Test duration
4 to 8 hours. The labelling process is lengthy (4 hours). Images must be taken after a waiting period (30 minutes for the early image, 2-6 hours for the delayed images).

Monoclonal antibody scintigraphy / Immunoscintigraphic whole-body scan / Monoclonal antibody whole-body scan
Description: Assessment of the distribution of granulocytes labelled with anti-granulocyte antibodies in bone and osteoarticular infectious processes.
Preparation
- No prior preparation is required.
Indications
- Assessment of bone and osteoarticular infectious processes.
Test duration
4 hours.

Bone scintigraphy with ⁶⁷Ga / Whole-body scan with ⁶⁷Ga / Bone tomographic scintigraphy (SPECT/SPECT-CT) with ⁶⁷Ga
Description: Assessment of inflammatory/infectious/tumour activity.
Preparation
- Where the scan involves abdominal organs, the use of laxatives is recommended to reduce transit to the colon. It is advisable to stop iron (Fe) administration 48 hours before the administration of the radiopharmaceutical and for 48 hours afterwards.
- For the duration of the test, the administration of gadolinium should be avoided if an MRI is performed.
Indications
- Assessment of patients with Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin lymphomas: assessment of pre-treatment tumour uptake, monitoring of therapeutic response (differential diagnosis between tumour activity and residual mass), detection of recurrences and assessment of disease extent.
- Detection and localisation of other tumours (sarcomas).
- Assessment of patients with AIDS.
- Assessment of sarcoidosis, fibrosis and chronic infections (chronic osteomyelitis).
- Diagnosis and localisation of pulmonary infections.
- Assessment of interstitial lung diseases (specifically sarcoidosis and fibrosis).

Treatment of synovitis in chronic inflammatory arthropathies / Intracavitary radioisotope treatment
Description: Treatment of synovitis in chronic inflammatory arthropathies.
Preparation
- The treatment is carried out by prior agreement with the referring physician (rheumatologist, orthopaedic surgeon, specialist in systemic diseases, etc.) and once they have established that there is no local feature that contraindicates it (using X-rays, MRI or CT if necessary).
Indications
- Treatment of synovitis in chronic inflammatory arthropathies.
- Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other arthropathies resistant to medical treatment, such as: seronegative arthropathies, haemophilia, villonodular synovitis.
- Possible treatment of chronic degenerative arthropathy.
Test duration
30 minutes. –

PET-CT with ¹⁸F-sodium fluoride (¹⁸F-NaF)
Description: Study of bone metabolism.
Preparation
- No prior preparation is required.
- No fasting is required.
Indications
- Study of primary bone tumours.
- Study of bone viability.
- Study of bone necrosis.
- Study of other benign bone conditions.
- Bone staging of prostate and breast cancer.
- Study of other neoplasms with osteoblastic bone metastases.
Test duration
1 hour. –
