ATRYS HEALTH, a global company providing precision medical diagnosis and treatment services and a pioneer in telemedicine and next-generation radiotherapy, has signed an agreement with Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, an international reference in maternal and child medicine, to manage the nuclear medicine area of the future Pediatric Cancer Center, which aims to become one of the largest paediatric cancer centres in Europe and one of the most important in the world, and is scheduled to open in the middle of this year.
ATRYS will contribute to this alliance its know-how in oncology –a field in which the company has one of the largest European networks of linear accelerators for high-precision treatments– as well as the expertise gained through last December's acquisition of SIMM Molecular, a company dedicated to medical diagnosis through molecular and metabolic imaging and a European benchmark in nuclear medicine.
The nuclear medicine area of the Pediatric Cancer Center, managed by ATRYS, will have several state-of-the-art scanners for the metabolic diagnosis of tumours, offering cutting-edge PET-CT and SPECT-CT imaging techniques.
This equipment, together with the metabolic therapy rooms, will enable rapid diagnosis of cancer in children and a thorough and precise understanding of its extent and response to treatment.
ATRYS's agreement with Hospital Sant Joan de Déu will also improve diagnosis in children in other specialties beyond oncology, such as orthopaedics and traumatology, nephrology, kidney transplantation, urology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology and epilepsy, among others.
According to Santiago de Torres, Chairman of ATRYS, “the alliance with the prestigious Hospital Sant Joan de Déu and its SJD Pediatric Cancer Center demonstrates our ability to partner with and bring value to top-level companies, centres and hospital groups. We are especially excited to be part of a paediatric oncology project with a clear ambition for European and global leadership, and to do so in the field of nuclear medicine, which technology and the latest medical advances have turned into a solid ally for highly precise and effective cancer diagnosis and treatment that saves lives”.
De Torres added that, “as a global company serving society, we will continue to devote all our efforts to improving quality of care and diagnostic accuracy so that prevention is at the heart of healthcare”.
With this alliance, ATRYS consolidates its value proposition and presence in the field of nuclear medicine, with a team under the medical direction of Dr Isabel Roca and Dr Joan Castell, who have extensive and solid professional careers in some of Spain's leading healthcare centres.
Thanks to its ambitious organic and inorganic growth strategy, ATRYS has become, in record time, a benchmark in the diagnosis of oncological diseases and in the fields of pathology and oncohaematology, genetics, diagnostic imaging and high-precision radiotherapy.
In the specific field of nuclear medicine, prior to the acquisition of SIMM, the company already had centres integrated into Hospital Lusiadas in Porto and in the towns of Braga and Santa Maria da Feira, also in Portugal.
